This seminar will provide a timely opportunity for delegates to discuss the priorities for supporting Scotland’s cultural, arts, creative and tourism industries as the Scottish Government completes its Culture Strategy.
Delegates will assess the latest thinking on tackling the challenges facing the development of cultural, artistic and creative industries in Scotland, particularly around infrastructure, skills and improving leadership in the arts.
They will also discuss the future for funding arts, culture and the creative industries, including the use of alternative sources of funding, innovating fund-raising and long-term planning to support projects including The Scottish Government’s International Creative Ambition Programme which will be implemented by May 2019, announced in the Programme for Government.
Further sessions will examine how the social impact of culture can be maximised for communities in Scotland, including in tackling poverty, inequalities and deprivation, and best practice in developing collaborative networks to support arts and communities.
Attendees will consider the next steps in increasing cultural tourism - including the development and promotion of Scotland’s unique cultural identity and enhancing ‘Brand Scotland’ globally - and will examine ways in which the creative industries can work to further attract more high-spending visitors and investors.
The agenda also looks at the future of Scotland’s screen industry, with particular reference to issues raised in the Culture, Tourism, Europe and External Relations Committee Inquiry into Scotland’s screen sector, including skills, training and facilities - as well as discussing Creative Scotland’s progress with the proposed establishment of a dedicated Screen Unit.
